Chairman’s Update April 2024
Hi All,
Looks like summer will finally arrive over the next few weeks which is great as we have had continuous rain for what seems like months.
The past few months has seen the Club continue to be successful with more people visiting us on a regular basis. Cheltenham Gold Cup Day in March was an enormous success with our Bar Team pulling over 400 pints of Guiness along with many other beverages. Personally, I would like to thank the team for their input on this day which was pivotal to the success.
On this point I would like to stress to all members the following
- Our Club has always had a limited number of seating and unless we extend the premises outwards/upwards this will continue. I have now heard that our Bar Team have been receiving rude comments from some members who are unable to find a seat due to the success of the club and members visiting. (Please bear in mind all paid up members are entitled to visit the Club at any time and use the facilities). Our Bar Team are not employed to receive rude comments from anyone who is unable to find a seat. Also, seat/table reservations are not allowed unless a private function has been agreed with the Club officials.
- We welcome children into the Club but would remind parents that it is always their responsibility to not allow children to run around the Club as this may cause injury to themselves or a member. Likewise, the patio and outside space must always be supervised as Children have been playing with the patio lights, which again could result in an injury.
Premises
As you may have noticed there has been enhancements to the Club over the past few months, noticeably the chairs and tables. The patio area and furniture have been steam cleaned, ready for the summer. This is the second phase of the programme the committee agreed upon to improve the Club for you, our members. This phase should be completed by end of April 2024
There are still a few tasks that need to be completed over the next few months and I will keep you updated as and when these begin.
Bar
The first quarter of the year traditionally brings with it increases in beverages costs from our suppliers. This year is no different with increases already put into place with a possible further increase in April from a supplier. As a Club we work hard to keep prices down for our members whilst maintaining an income which allows us to re-invest in the future sustainability of the club. Our Secretary Harri will keep you updated when the increases are announced.
Events
Our Events team have once again produced a list of live entertainment in the Club for the remainder of 2024 and have also booked the first two months of 2025. The events team would always welcome any suggestions from members to provide new events/artists for consideration.
Please see the website www.rblhayes.co.uk and notice boards for information.
Please note all live entertainment requires a £5.00 entrance fee per guest and it is up to a member to make sure this is paid to the Bar Team and a ticket obtained.
Armed Forces Community
As a Royal British Legion club, we will continue to support our veterans and serving Armed Forces Community. To this end we have organised an evening where the Armed Forces Community are able to visit the club to meet and have a catch up. These evenings are on the first Wednesday of every month. If you know anyone that would like to visit us, then please pass the word around.
Well, that’s a quick catch up of the goings on in the Club, again it’s the continued support of you our members that maintains the friendly welcoming atmosphere and our continued success.
As always, the committee welcome any feedback and we look forward to seeing you over the coming months.
Kind regards
Paul
Club Chairman
