Obituary

John Rayment, President of the Club, sadly passed away last Thursday, August 15th. On behalf of the club and branch, I have passed on the condolences of all members.

Since John’s passing, I have been privileged to receive many tributes from members both through our Facebook page and by email.

John had a career in the Police Service, serving at New Scotland Yard, and through his friendship with Dennis Burroughs, he joined the Hayes RBL in the mid-nineties, having previously been a member at West Wickham RBL.

Through his time at the club, John joined the Branch committee and then Club committee where he became Club Chairman and then, more recently, the current President where he fulfilled these roles with total commitment, honesty, and integrity.

John was heavily involved with various Club and Branch activities including our annual Poppy Appeal, serving as Branch Membership Secretary and Welfare Officer and assisted in various charity events, including our recent Horse Racing evenings.

Over the years there have been changes in Club Committees, Chairman and Bar Team which John easily managed with his friendly personality, wealth of experience and had a knack of keeping everyone calm and in order in our meetings and discussions.

My own personal friendship with John began over 20 years ago, when we used to bump into each other in the Club and have a chat about life in general. John was also the main catalyst for me deciding to become Club Chairman and I referred to John on numerous occasions for his advice and guidance, which he was always happy to provide. I will miss him deeply.

The Club will provide information of when and where John’s funeral will take place.

Rest In Peace John.
